A 300 Level student of the Delta State University has donated 25,000 units of nose masks to the University. The student, Gabriel Avre, of Geology Department and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of G & R Collections, made the donation in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
This symbolic presentation was conducted by the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Maxwell Iwegbue, on behalf of the donor. The Dean, while presenting the items, noted with delight the desire of Mr. Gabriel Avre to give back to the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy O. Egwunyenga, while responding, thanked the student for making this modest contribution to the University as part of his contribution towards arresting the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Vice-Chancellor, however, noted with dismay the non-compliance with the COVID-19 prevention protocols by some students, especially during and after lectures. The Vice- Chancellor revealed the desire of the University to make it mandatory for every student to wear the nose mask.
In his brief speech, the donor, Gabriel Avre, stated that he decided to donate the face masks to assist the University in its efforts towards curtailing the spread of the Pandemic as well as saving lives, particularly of students and staff of the University.
Present at the ceremony were the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy O. Egwunyenga; the Registrar, Mr. Daniel Urhibo; the Bursar Mr. Justice Egbare, the Public Relations Officer, Mr. E. Agbure and the Student Union Executive led by their President, Mr. Comrade Ojaide.
