The Federal University Birnin-Kebbi (FUBK) was founded in the year, 2013 alongside those of Gashua, Gusau and others by the Federal Government of Nigeria. FUBK is one of the twelve universities established during Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's administration. The twelve universities were established in States where none existed.
Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic at Usman Danfodio University in person of Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University (FUBK).
