Data obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has shown that twelve political parties replaced their deputy governorship candidates before the expiration of the deadline for the substitution of candidates for the November 2021 Anambra Governorship Election. This article is focused on the highest qualifications submitted by the substitute deputy governorship candidates.
Chira Uzochukwu Obiora of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is the one that submitted the highest qualification, Master in Public Administration (MPA). Obiora is a medical doctor who specializes in family medicine.
Eight of the substitute deputy governorship candidates submitted first degree (or its equivalent) as their highest qualifications (2 MBBS, 3 LLB/BL, 1 BSc, 1 BEd and 1 HND) . The two MBBS holders are Okechukwu Nnamdi Eze of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and Ibezim Onyekachukwu Gilbert of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). This brings the total number of medical doctors among the replacements to three.
The three candidates that presented Bachelor of Laws/Barrister at Law are Maxwell Emeka Chukwujama of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Nwaebili Chimwe Clare of African Action Congress (AAC) and Jessie Balonwu Uka of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). Interestingly, the AAC and ZLP substitutes for the deputy governorship slots are women.
The replacement candidate that presented Bachelor of Science (BSc) is Ojukwu Nzube Chukwuma of the National Rescue Movenent (NRM). Onuorah Chinwe Uchenna Letitia (Allied Peoples Movement) and Obi Kenneth Ifeatu (Accord Party) presented Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Higher National Diploma (HND) respectively. Interestingly, the Accord Party candidate that was replaced also had HND.
The remaining three substitute deputy governorship candidates presented West African School Certificate (WASC) as their highest academic qualifications. These ones are Uchenna Regina Nwao (Action Alliance), Chukwuemeka Stephen Okafor (APC) and Igbo Godwin Gozie (People's Redemption Party). Further checks however revealed that the deputy governorship candidate of the APC has higher qualifications because he is a well established Barrister.
