Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has ordered the immediate shut down of Union Primary School, which is located at Afaraukwu, Umahia North Local Government Area of the state, after a device feared to be an explosive was discovered.

The state's Commissioner of Information, John Kalu, confirmed the discovery of the device.
However, he disclosed that signs of corrosion on it indicates that the explosive could have been remnants (relics) of the Biafran Civil War which happened fifty years ago.

The Commissioner said security agents have been deployed to the school premises to ensure the safety of pupils and members of the community.
The device has been forwarded to Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) of the Nigerian Police Force for investigation.
The government urged residents to be calm and report suspicious activities in the environs.
