The state's Commissioner of Information, John Kalu, confirmed the discovery of the device.

However, he disclosed that signs of corrosion on it indicates that the explosive could have been remnants (relics) of the Biafran Civil War which happened fifty years ago.

The Commissioner said security agents have been deployed to the school premises to ensure the safety of pupils and members of the community.

The device has been forwarded to Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) of the Nigerian Police Force for investigation.

The government urged residents to be calm and report suspicious activities in the environs.

Residents confirmed the presence of security agents as images showing Police Van were shared by Abia Facts Newspaper Facebook Page:

We Thank God for the safety of the pupils and staffs of the schools. I expect the security agencies to carryout thorough clearance of the school premises before it is reopened.
