Adamawa House of Assembly Probes Payment, Registration Of WAEC, NECO anomalies in government schools

The Adamawa State House of Assembly Ad Hoc Committee constituted by Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas who is the Speaker, to investigate various anomalies in public schools has commenced investigation.

The Committee is mandated by the Committee of Whole to investigate 4 issues including all methods of or arbitrary payment and registration of prospective candidates for West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) by schools.

Other issues to be investigated by the committee as gathered by NEWS PLATFORM include mode of employment in the state, school feeding programme which was initiated by Governor Fintiri, PTA levy with a view to clarify the exact amount supposed to be paid by pupils/students per term.

Already, the Committe headed by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Hammatukur Yetisuri(Jada Mbulo) has commenced an investigation by summoning the Commissioner, Permanernt Secretary and other Principal Officers of the Ministry of Education, PTA Chairmen and some Principals of schools in three geopolitical zones of the state.

The Committee on Monday grilled the Chairman PTA in the State, Lawan Abubakar Umar, Principals of GSS Numan, Mubi and Aliyu Mustapha College, John K. Filibus, Saidu Jibrilla and Ibrahim H. Tukur, and asked the leadership of the Ministry of Education led by Hon. Wulbina Jackson to appear on Tuesday.

The Committee had while investigating the allegations, however promised to pay a surprised visits to public schools in order to have first hand information on the happenings in schools.

Responding to questions, the PTA Chairman, informed the Committee that the PTA dues for Primary School is N480 and N900 for Secondary School annually and that they use the money in renovating schools, repairing broken chairs and other facilities.

While on their part, the Principals blamed students and parents for the discrepancies/challenges they encounter in the course of registration of candidates for WAEC and NECO respectively.
