UNIBEN: V.C orders closure of Varsity after students protest.

The Vice chancellor of University of Benin (UNIBEN) Prof. Lilian salami has ordered the immediate closure of the institution.

This decision was prompted by students protest which occured yesterday following the decision of the school management to increase the late registration fee by the sum of twenty thousand naira (N20,000).

This development did not go down well with some students of the institution, citing the present economic asperity in the country as being more than enough a yolk to bear.

Some students of the instruction in a bid to make known their dissatisfaction with the latest development took to the street in protest.

The protest led to the temporary blockage of the popular Ekhenuan road. The ever busy Benin-Lagos expressway was also blocked temporarily by the protesting students.

The order by the V.C to close the institution was in bid to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation and carry out their dastardly and notorious acts that could be injurious lives and may also lead to breach of the tranquility being enjoyed by the students and staffs of the institution.

It should also be noted that the university resumed academic activity for the 2020/2021 session on Monday the 13th of September 2021.
