Primary school teachers in Akwa Ibom have been invited by the State Government for the first phase of verification in payments of their entitlements.
The Permanent Secretary of Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board disclosed this on Tuesday, saying the first round is for retired primary school teachers and next of kin from 1976 to 2000.
Ezekiel Umoh said the exercise begins tomorrow (Feb. 10) and will last till Thursday, Feb. 11, at the State Universal Basic Education Board Headquarters, Uyo. The time is 8 am each day.
Retired teachers who are alive are requested to go along with the following:
- letter of first appointment
- letter of confirmation of appointment
- letter of retirement
- last promotion
- birthday certificate/age declaration
- clearance slip, and
- a passport-sized photograph
Next of kin (death cases from 1988 to 2000) will take their turn Friday, February 12, at 8 am, with spillover Monday, February 15 at 8 am.
For next of kin, they are to present:
- letter of administration
- death certificate
- affidavit of next of kin of the deceased
- burial programme and
- a passport-sized photograph
Umoh advised those affected to adhere strictly to the scheduled dates for the exercise.

FIRST REPORTS reports that Akwa Ibom State Government had inaugurated an eight-man Committee to ensure a fool-proof and hitch-free process of the exercise.
The Committee was inaugurated on February 5, on behalf of the State Government by the Head of Civil Service, Effiong Essien in his office.
It has the Permanent Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr Umoh, as Chairman.
The Committee is to set out the process for a successful payment exercise, within 2 weeks from the date of inauguration.
Among the terms of reference of the Committee are:
- to verify the service records of living and dead retired Primary School teachers in the state
- calculate the entitlements of the affected retirees, and
- to segment as appropriate, the beneficiaries for payment
Other members of the committee include:
- Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Mrs Ekaete Ekanem
- Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Ini James Ikie
- Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mrs Abasiekeme V. Essien

- Chairman, Nigeria Labour Labour Congress, Mr Sunny James
- Chairman, Forum of Primary School Teachers, Rev. (Dr) Felix Cookey
- Assistant Director, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Doris Ikpuho (Committee Secretary)
