University of Ilorin is a very popular federal university which is located in Kwara state. Despite being located in a region with relatively low academic inclinations, it stood out as the most preferred choice of institution for secondary school leavers in the country.
With its high moral and disciplinary excellence coupled with conducive and peaceful environment, they came out the best in matters of educational stability and unwavering academic calendar.
The university is arguably the largest educational institution by land mass and buildings/structures. With over 16 faculties and about 100 departments, the university offers the highest number of courses in all Nigerian universities.
Unilorin in recent years has been on the spotlight for diverse of good reasons in recent years . In 2010, it was rated the best university in Nigeria.
Its Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, won the Best paper Award at the IEEE International Rural and Elderly Health Informatics Conference (IREHI) held in Lome, Togo, between December 14 and 17, 2017.
The Pan African Universities Debating Championship, PAUDC, is the biggest yearly inter-versity debate tournament across Africa continent. In December 2019, University of Ilorin teams lifted the trophy as the best speaker in Nigeria, the best in West Africa and the overall best in Africa.
On the 30th of June, 2020, The Nigerian Journal of Technological Development, a quarterly scientific publication of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Ilorin was accepted by Scopus.
So far, researches showed that its law faculty is rated the best in Nigeria and its Humanities departments well rated.
It goes without saying that the yardsticks used by the National University commission,NUC (The body responsible for rating universities) in rating universities is outdated and needs evaluation. Unilorin is outstanding in all the criteria listed as catalyst for individual standings on the list yet it is amazing where they stand.

Apparently, it is high time the NUC officials conduct proper research. Their arm-chair research method is not effective enough because with all the explanation given, who still believes Unilorin is the 6th best university in Nigeria?
