Getting admitted into a federal university like Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka is not easy. The admission advert published on the university's website indicates that the cut off mark for 2021 admission into its affiliated institutions is 160. It is therefore easier to obtain a degree of the university by attending any of these affiliates. According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), four institutions are affiliated to the university. Two of them are colleges of education while the remaining two include one polytechnic and one seminary. Let us take a look at these schools.
Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze was established in 1986 by the federal military government of Ibrahim Babangida (IBB). The college however began academic activities in 1990 using the facilities of the defunct All Saints Anglican Secondary School, Umunze. It is one of the four institutions that are affiliated to UNIZIK.
Another College of education affiliated to the university is Enugu State College of Education (Technical). This college (also known as ESCET) was established in 2006 under the administration of Dr Chimaroke Nnamani. In 2009, it got its affiliation to the university ratified by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Auchi Polytechnic (AuchiPoly) is the only polytechnic that is currently affiliated to university. It is federal polytechnic located at Auchi in Edo State. This institution was established in 1963 as a Technical College. but in 1973, it was elevated to the status of a polytechnic. AuchiPoly currently runs nine UNIZIK-affiliated degree programs.
Pope John Paul II Seminary, Okpuno is the only religious institution that is affiliated to the university. This seminary was established as a campus of Bigard Memorial Seminary in 1997. It was however named after the late Pope John Paul in 200. This institution awards Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
