The university of Maiduguri Medical and Dental Students Association (UMMESA) gets a new president.
The electioneering process was to be held before now but had been deferred to ensure that everyone who is eligible exercise their franchise and also to guarantee a transparent process.
To achieve this, an app was developed where each and every member can access to cast their vote by logging in with their unique school identity number and their set password. A chronicle of contesting candidates is seen where they can select and elect the person they intend to cast their votes for.
The election date was finally set for the UMMESA members to elect their leaders who will be steering the affairs of the medical students for the next one year.
All members are to start casting their vote by 10:00 am on the 25th of September, 2021.
The franchise started at 10:30 am.
It started smoothly not until some challenges were encountered and later rectified.
At the end of the election, about 1:30 pm, collation of results by the Independent Medical Electoral Commission (IMEC) chaired by Isaac Satumari, and the participants’ representative were also present at the Edington Hall of the Teaching Hospital.
Comrade Musa Dahiru Muhammad emerges as the President-elect of the association.
He has made a press release thanking everyone who in one way or the other participated in the process.
Comrade Dahiru added that his administration would be a participatory and responsible leadership that can be accessed by all.
