Herdsman who bagged 1st Class Degree at the University proves Herders can achieve alot if educated

A former herder, Ali Inusah has become the 2021 valedictorian of his graduating class at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in Ghana.

He graduated with first class degree in Accounting at UPSA and delivered a speech during the 13th congregation. He was celebrated on Facebook by Citi FM/TV journalist, Umaru Sanda Amadi.

Life was really tough for the young graduate, but he had to defy all odds to achieve his impressive grades.

According to him, after his senior high school, he faced a setback that threatened his dream to pursue higher education. He had good grades in his WAEC, but there was no money to further his education.

His elder brother took his results to Umaru and showed him the WASSCE results of his junior brother. He was impressed when he saw the As on the paper, so Ali's brother asked that he helped him, if he didn't, His little brother would remain a herdman slaving in the bushes for nothing.

Umaru who then discussed with his team at Citi FM, decided to help the boy so as not to rot in the bush, they offered him a joint scholarship to study accounting.

After the 4-year programme, Inusah graduated with a first class and emerged the best graduating student.

The story of the young herder who decided to go to school against all odds, is worth celebrating, especially for a herder because, such stories are usually very rare in Nigeria.

This is why younger herders especially in Nigeria, should learn from this herder, who chose to get educated, instead of ravaging in the bush.

The issue of banditry and crimes in which some of these herders engage in, is majorly due to their high level of illeteracy.

If herders are properly educated, or given an opportunity to go to a school, I believe they can achieve alot, not just for their race, but for the entire Nigeria and beyond.
