7 Famous People That Studied At Kwara State Polytechnic (Photos)

Kwara State Polytechnic is a Nigerian tertiary institution established in 1973 by the then Military Governor of Kwara State Col. David Bamigboye after the decision of establishing a polytechnic in Kwara State was announced in 1971. It is located in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

1. Saheed Balogun

Saidi Kolawole Alabi Balogun, popularly known as Saheed Balogun, was born in Kwara State on February 5th, 1967. He is a Nigerian actor, film-maker, director and producer.

He had his Primary and Secondary educations in Kwara State and also his first degree at the Kwara State Polytechnic where he studied statistics.

Balogun began acting in 1978, when he presented his first television program titled “Youth Today” on NTA. He produced his first film titled City Girl in 1989 and has since, featured in, produced and directed several Nigerian films. His entrant to the movie industry as a young boy in 1981 was warmly welcome as his love and passion for the game was untamable. Saidi grew into a tycoon in the industry as he has successfully produced and directed blockbuster movies. 

Balogun was married to a Nigerian Actress, Fathia Balogun but was separated in 2014. Together they have two children. Balogun has moved on with a new love with a beautiful lady called Funke Tayo Sofowora.

Balogun has been nominated for various awards including the 2012 Nollywood Movie Award for Best Lead Actor in an Indigenous Language and the 2017 City People Movie Award for Yoruba Movie Personality of the Year (Male).

2. Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim

Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim is a Nigerian politician and senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District. He was born in 1967 in Kwara State.

He attended Ojoku Grammar School where he obtained his West Africa School Certificate in 1985 before proceeding to Kwara State Polytechnic where he graduated in 1987.

He obtained a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Ado-Ikiti in the year 2000. He went further and attended the Lagos Business School where he qualified for as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Banking.  

He also attended LeedCity University, Ibadan, where he bagged a Doctorate degree in Business Administration in 2009.

Prior to becoming a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rafiu was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibrafumus Limited from 2005 to 2009.

From 2009 to 2011, he was a member of the kwara State House of Assembly.

In the 2015 elections, he contested for the seat of the Kwara South Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress and emerged winner.

3. Bishop David Oyedepo

Bishop David Oyedepo is a famous Nigerian pastor. He was born on 27th September 1954 in Omuaran, a small town in Kwara State in the south western part of Nigeria.

Oyedepo studied architecture at the Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin. He also received a PhD in Human Development from Honolulu University, Hawaii, US.

Ever since he founded the Living Faith World Outreach Ministry in 1981, it has grown to become one of Africa’s largest congregations. The Faith Tabernacle, where he hosts three services every Sunday, is Africa’s largest worship center, with a seating capacity of 50,000. Oyedepo owns four private jets and homes in London and the United States. He also owns Dominion Publishing House, a thriving publishing company that publishes all his books. He founded and owns Covenant University, one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions, and Faith Academy, an elite high school.

He is currently married to Pastor Faith Abiola Oyedepo and they both have four lovely children together.

4. Faithia Williams

Faithia Williams is a Nigerian actress, filmmaker, producer and director. The veteran actor have made great influence in the Nigeria Industry.

Faithia, who is of Delta state descent, was born in Ikeja in February 1969. She attended Maryland grade school and Maryland Comprehensive school in Lagos state, where she obtained the West African School Certificate before she proceeded to Kwara State Polytechnic where she received a diploma certificate.

Williams has starred, produced and directed several Nigerian films over the years. In 2008, she won the Africa movie Academy Award for the most Outstanding Actress Indigenous and her movie Iranse Aje won the best indigenous film of the year. In April 2014, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award, having emerged as best actress of the year alongside Odunlade Adekola who emerged as best actor of the year. 

Williams was formerly married to a veteran nollywood actor, Saheed Balogun, with whom she has two children, a son and a daughter. 

5. Mayowa Oluyeba

Mayowa Oluyeba was born in Lagos State, Nigeria. He attended Saint Agnes Primary School, Maryland, Lagos and Maryland Comprehensive High School, Maryland, Lagos, Nigeria. He studied Banking and Finance at Kwara State Polytechnic, Kwara State, Nigeria, and obtained an online degree in Business Analytics from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA.

Oluyebas' career in the creative industry started when he incidentally met the late Film Director, Amaka Igwe. He thereafter joined Solar Productions owned by Gboyega Adelaja, with Olumide Ofere and Remi Ogunpitan as directors in the company. There, he gained exposure to TV and Film Production. In 1997, he partnered with his friend Remi Kehinde, to start Mega Visions, a Special Effects Company for home videos. They produced Special Effects for various movies including Haunted and the movie, Oshodi Oke featuring actress Ronke Ojo. He joined Reuters News Agency in the year 2000. He worked as a news stringer and he covered breaking news stories across Nigeria, shot footages for Africa Journal and transmitted news via live wire. 

In September 2016, Mayowa Oluyeba was signed by Zuri24 Media to be the Series Producer for Battleground M-Net Commissioned by Daily Telenovela 2017.

6. Lola Akande

Lola Akande is an academic and fiction writer. She has published four novels including the prize-winning What It Takes' and the latest which is titled 'SUITORS ARE SCARCE IN LAGOS. She was born on 3 October 1965 in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria. She also has a career spanning public service, public relations, and journalism.

Akande attended Oke-Ode Grammar School between 1976 and 1981 where she earned the West African School Certificate (WASC) before proceeding Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria between 1981 and 1983.

She holds a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Ilorin in 1986, a master's degree in English from the University of Ibadan in 2006, and a doctorate in English with specialisation in Prose Fiction, also from the University of Ibadan in 2013.

She also holds a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos in 2002 and a professional qualification in Public Relations from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in 2001.

Akande currently teaches in the Department of English, University of Lagos. She is also a faculty member with the Advertising Practitioners’ Council of Nigeria (APCON).

7. Ayo Animashaun

Ayo Animashaun is a Nigerian entertainment entrepreneur and television executive. He owns HipTV.

Animashaun was born in the Kwara region of Nigeria. He studied Business Administration at Kwara State Polytechnic.

He is the CEO of Smooth Promotions, an entertainment firm that organizes The Headies award and publishes the weekly Hip Hop World Magazine. On 5 November 2013, he led his firm to the launch of HipTV on Multichoice DSTV. In October 2013, The Net magazine listed him as one of the most influential people in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
