A Lady In A Wheelchair Shares Her Ordeal While Seeking Admission

It has always been said that disability is not inability. Because someone is sitting in a wheelchair, lost an arm or a leg, blind or have any form of disability, it doesn't make them less human than other people who are whole.

A lady named Blessing Mary Ocheido had shared her experience on Facebook while seeking for admission to study pharmacy. According to her, she was turned down even though she did well in her interview. They told her mum who accompanied her that because of her disability, she won't be able to participate in the compulsory Saturday morning exercise, so for that reason, there is no place for her at the university.

She eventually got a degree in pharmacy at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She spoke of her struggle as a student, how people did not want her to graduate. As a disabled person, they expected her to study Home Economics or sit at home and let her family care for her..

The end part of her write up got me though, 'why are most institutions so discriminatory against persons with disabilities?'

Good question. Click the link to check out the post and see people's reactions.
