He is famous for designing Nigeria's national flag, which earned him the name "Mr. Flag Man".
Taiwo Akinkunmi was born in Ibadan, he is a twin, He lived with his father until age 8 at Ibadan, before he relocated to the North.
He began his early education in the North.
He returned to the western part of the country where he attended Baptist Day School in Ibadan.
He finished from Baptist Day School Ibadan in 1949 and proceeded to Ibadan Grammar School in 1950, after 5 years he left Ibadan Grammar school
After his departure from the Grammar school he took an appointment as an agriculturist at the Western Region Secretariat in Ibadan as a civil servant.
He later gained admission to Norwood Technical College in London where he studied electrical engineering.
It was when studying there, he designed the Nigerian Flag.
Mr Akinkunmi "middle" when he went to submit the designed flag.
He entered the competition which he came across it in a library.
Mr Akinkunmi was qouted; "I took details of what is to be expected to design a flag that would be used by a country that was about to witness its independence. I took part in the competition and my design was selected as the best in the year 1958."
He said he was paid £100 for the design of the flag in 1958, the initial design had a star in the midst of the white colour. But the star was later removed by then President of the country.
He returned to Nigeria in 1963 after his education and went back to the agricultural department at the secretariat in Ibadan to continue his job.
He worked as a civil servant until 1994 and retired as Assistant Superintendent of Agriculture.
He was honoured with Officer of the order of Federal Republic (OFR) on 29 September 2014 at the conference centre Abuja.
Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi now lives in Ibadan, the city where he was born.
