Issues surrounding the ban on SS 1&2 students' concerning the external School certificate examinations has been an age long phenomenon that has become a recurring decimal among these set of students' annually.
Quite a number of schools had been battling with this issue as some of their students' usually abscond to write these examinations while some school administrators had taken a drastic approach in curbing the menace.
Among these Administrators was Cheif F.O Ogun a former Principal of the famous Abeokuta Grammar School, founded in 1908.The school has been a force to recon with both academically and morally going by the principles set by the founding fathers of the school.
During his time as the school's Principal, he employed different approach to stall the menace, this include organizing the midterm test which usually falls within the period when some core subjects like Mathematics and English are usually written in the examination.
Any students' found not to have written his/her Continuous assessment test, must prove the reasons for his Inability to write the test beyound a reasonable dout to be tree from the punishment that is being given to such a students' .
This approach had produced a remarkable results in the school as it has reduced the menace to an appreciable level.
The incident being referred to here was in the late 2000s, if this issue of non final year students in our various Secondary schools had persisted over the years, then, it is a welcome development on the part of the Federal Ministry of Education concerning the ban placed on Students' in SS 1&2 from writing the external School leaving certificate examinations in all Unity school all over the country, a directives that should be extended to all publicly owned and privately owned Institutions all over the country to effectively erradicate the menace that has eaten deep into the fabrics of our Educational Institutions
