Ten more abducted Baptist High School students in Kaduna, regain freedom

After 75 days in the kidnappers' den, 10 more Baptist High School students have today been released by their abductors in Kaduna State.

Recall that the students were kidnapped on July 5 when a group of armed men invaded their school in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

Also recall that a similar attempt to kidnap students from a Winners Chapel run secondary school in that same neighborhood was successfully thwarted by some security agents.

The Police authorities in Kaduna is yet to make an official statement on this latest release of the abducted students but this release raises the number of children who have now regained their freedom to 100 meaning that 21 students are still being held for ransom by the kidnappers.

A senior official of the school told the media that the students were released after an undisclosed amount of money was paid to the bandits. This is a departure from several official statements in the past in which authorities insisted that no ransom was paid to secure the release of abductees.

The school official who spoke to the press off the record also intimated the news media that the students have been taken to the hospital for medical evaluation before they can be re-united with their families.
