A remarkable 11 out of the 66 total first batch graduates of the Seventh Day Adventist Church-owned Clifford University, Ihie, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, bagged Summa Cum Laude (first class honours).
In attendance at the maiden event was His Excellency, Gov Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State who, being impressed by the performance of the graduands, this Sunday, announced a Masters Degree Scholarship to the Best Graduating Student of Biochemistry.
Cash rewards was also awarded to other Best Graduating Students in all the five Faculties of the University, together with cash support to 20 indigent students. The governor also extends his magnanimity by pledging scholarship to the first 20 students to be admitted in the next academic year.
Speaking further, Gov. Ikpeazu charged university graduates (across board) to apply the training they acquired while in the universities to real-life situations, emphasizing that the society should feel the importance of knowledge in the institutions of higher learning (through the graduates).
Dr Deji Adeleke also followed in the footsteps of the Governor by awarding scholarship to over 100 undergraduates of the university who were drawn from all geopolitical zones of the country, a feat that impressed the Governor. Responding, Ikpeazu commended the Adeleke University, Ede, founder and president for his immeasurable contribution to youth development in the country.
The University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chimezie Omeonu, was full of praise for the graduates for making the institution proud.
He, therefore, urged them to ensure they are worthy ambassadors of the institution.
