WAEC; FG should decide whether to allow SS3 Pupils to have COVID19 Certificate or a WAEC Certificate

The Head of WAEC National Office , Nigeria , Patrick Areghan, in a meeting with educational stakeholders and The House of Representative Committee on Basic Education and Services, has told the federal government and educational stakeholders to decides whether to allow its pupils to have COVID - 19 certificate or a WAEC certificate.

According to the statement as reported by the PUNCH, Mr. Patrick Areghan Said, "the attendees about the logistics involved in the conduct of examinations , noting that it is a long process to print question papers , while preparedness for the examination takes so much from WAEC".

The WAEC boss, therefore , urged Nigeria to "decide whether to allow its pupils to have COVID - 19 certificate or a WAEC certificate".

In the meeting, the House of Rep Committee on basis education and services promises to liaise with States Governors in a bid to persuade the federal government to reopen schools in other for Nigeria candidates to participate in the regional examination.

Over 1,600,000 students in Nigeria is said to have registered for WASSCE examination.

It could be recalled that the federal government suspended the planned reopening of schools for graduating students due to the corona virus pandemic and the treat it poses to students and teachers.

WASSCE examination board rescheduled the examination for August 3rd to September 5th.

Failure of the federal government to reopen schools means over 1.6 Million Nigeria Pupils that have registered for the examination will not be participating.

WASSCE is a regional examination body covering Nigeria, the Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Nigeria federal government seems to be the only Country that is drawing back from allowing is pupils from participating due to the effects of the corona virus pandemic.
