The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) begins a nationwide industrial action on demand of a new salary scheme for her lecturers, among others. The action takes off with effect from the 6th of April, 2021 as announced by ASUP.
It was learned that the negotiations staged between ASUP and FG ended in deadlock. On their demands, the polytechnic lecturers want payment of salary and promotional allowances owed by some state governments.
The union has alleged the negligence of issues affecting the technological education sub-section. Some of their demands are the implementation of the ASUP/FG agreement of 2010, payment of outstanding salaries, and arrears of new minimum wage in some state-owned polytechnic.
The strike according to the union will be called off if all the demands are met by the FG.
This is happening just three months after the ASUU called off their nine-month industrial action.
