1. 595 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Nigeria, total confirmed cases now 34,854.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has reported 595 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number of active infections to 34,854.
Till date, 14,292 cases have been discharged and 769 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The 595 new cases are reported from 24 states, namely: Lagos-156, Ondo-95, Rivers-53, Abia-43, Oyo-38, Enugu-29, Edo-24, FCT-23, Kaduna-20, Akwa Ibom-17, Anambra-17, Osun-17, Ogun-14, Kano-13, Imo-11, Delta-6, Ekiti-5, Gombe-4, Plateau-4, Cross River-2, Adamawa-1, Bauchi-1, Jigawa-1, Yobe-1.
2. The President, Muhammadu Buhari, has mourned Major General Edet Akpan, a former Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps, who died recently.
He also added that, the deceased’s visionary leadership and love for human development inspired reforms at state and national levels.
The President’s condolence message was contained in a statement which was made known by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
3. The House of Representatives, have met with stakeholders in the education sector on the ways schools could be reopened to allow pupils sit the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination.
According to the PUNCH, The House Committee on Basic Education and Services held a roundtable with the Federal Ministry of Education and West African Examination Council, Nigeria, to discuss the matter.
