Minister of State Education Dr Emeka Nwajuiba, announced on Friday July 17 that schools will not reopen anytime soon if all the stakeholders, teachers, and owners of the private schools in Nigeria does not put all the necessary guidelines in place on or before July 29 for the safe reopening of schools. Hence, the federal government will not announce any specific date yet for the resumption of schools.
Earlier the cancellation of the WAEC examination, has generated serious crisis among citizens, who believe many students will be deprived of education if the government does not allow WAEC examination to hold in Nigeria.
The WAEC had slated the examination for August 3 to September 5, but suddenly Nigeria government pulled out, and order the closure of all schools. Dr Emeka Nwajuiba while speaking said the health of our children is paramount, and will not do anything to jeopardize it. He however charge all the stakeholders to start working on the safety guidelines spelt out by the education ministry in collaboration with NCDC, and WHO to hasten the commencement of reopening of schools.
Also speaking, he assured Nigerians that the WAEC body will announce another date for the commencement of the exam, after all safety measures are being put in place.
