WAEC to postpone examinations nationwide- FG

With the ongoing global challenge posed by covid-19, no sector seemed to be spared. One sector worse hit by this fact is the education sector. The federal government of Nigeria has made public the plans of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to postponed the forthcoming examination.

This was disclosed by the director of information, federal ministry of education, Ben Goong.

While speaking on events surrounding schools reopening nationwide, Mr. Ben Goong stated that schools across the country should as a matter of necessity get all the necessary facilities ready before July 29 which according to him is an ultimatum.

Meanwhile, it has been reported by Legit.ng that tertiary institutions students nationwide has called on the federal government to do something concrete on schools resumption or face nationwide protest.

A two weeks ultimatum was given to the federal government to announce a feasible date of resumption. The group comprised of students from National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), National Association of University Students (NAUS) and National Association of College of Education Students (NANCES) at a meeting.

They also went further to advise the government on stopping the salaries of university teachers claiming they advocated for schools continous closure without proffering solution to the ongoing problem.

The called on the government to reconsider postponing WASSCE claiming candidates can still write their exams while observing the social distancing guidelines.
