Federal Polytechnic Shut Indefinitely Over Student Rampage

Final year students of Adamawa state polytechnic, yola went on rampage and that led to the school to be shut down on Thursday.

The school's 500- seaters lecture theatre was destroyed by the rampaging students, destroyed their student union's presidential vehicle, and also burnt the student union government's building.

Duo no life was lost in the rampage, but the Nigerian police have apprehended some of the involved students.

Prof. Ibrahim Umar, the Rector of the institution, announced the shutting of the school, and told reporters that what led to the rampage was that the students were protesting against the cancellation of "signing out" ceremony for the year.

He said that at the end of every final year students, they celebrate "signing out", but this year the activity was cancelled by the student affairs division because if some certain security reports.

Even after telling them that a committee would be setup to look into their case, they still didn't comply and went on with the rampage.

“We have closed the institution till further notice,’’ he said. (NAN)
