SCHOOL RESUMPTION: Oyo State Reschedules School Resumption.
The Oyo state government has adjusted the dates for the resumption and reopening of secondary and elementary schools.
This decision was made by the government in a bid to ensure conformity and alignment with the terms of agreement with the federal government and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) concerning the commencement of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, WASSCE.
Consequently, the commissioner for education, science and technology, Olasukanmi Olaleye said that since the WASSCE is scheduled to start on the 17th of August, students and pupils should continue their lessons and classes until then.
He made clear on Monday July 31 that the SSS 3 students are to resume on Monday, August 3 after the Sallah break, while JSS 3 and primary 6 students should resume on the 10th and 20th of August respectively for their exams.
He further urged all academic stakeholders to take note of the new development and others which were made known on July 21 which remained as announced. These were his words:
“On behalf of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, I wish to appreciate all stakeholders in the education sector for your unalloyed support and hard work during the preparation for the preparation for the resumption of academic activities in our schools.
“Your dedication to work, love for our students and personal involvement in the training and observance of Covid-19 protocols in the bid to contain coronavirus infection among our school children is unparalleled, COVID-19 is real and unabating at the moment, we shall however defeat the virus with science, diligence and courage.
“I cannot but most appreciate our teachers that took part in the revision exercise given to our students in terminal classes- SS3, JSS3 and Primary six.
“I pray that all our efforts at recording success in all examinations by our students will not be in vain.”
