Crisis In Imo: Is It A Sin To School In Owerri? - Student Laments

Fear has engulfed the students of Imo State University (IMSU) as several reports says soldiers are going from hostel to hostel arresting students in search of gunmen in Imo State.

Reports says the soldiers label the students as members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) after picking them up.

This might be because of the killing of Ahmed Gulak, a former aide to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who was killed on Saturday night in Owerri, Imo State capital city.

Twitter is awash with stories of the soldiers invading hotels and picking unsuspecting students.

Onwuanaku Chinyere posted on Twitter saying-- Omo soldiers are going hostel to hostel carrying innocent students, what did we do? 😭😭😭😭

Is it a sin to school in owerri? What is all these? We are students writing exams😭😭😭

I'm so scared😭😭

While every eye has lost sleep, with their ears hearing gun salutes at dangerous hour of the night. See other students tweets 👇

😭😭 I'm in tears rn... I want to go home but they've warned us not to go out from tomorrow and blocked headbridge too 😭

My hostel South gate for okwurrata Dem pack our boys 😭😭

They’ve started picking boys in their hostels around IMSU Owerri. Labeling them IPOB.

Imo State University is currently conducting exams. Students have asked that the exams be postponed due to insecurity and the exams has been shifted to 7th of June, 2021.

It’s beyond doubt that our country Nigeria rather than progressing is regressing day after day and even the poor youth and students are suffering it. Tell me why people won’t seek to go study abroad.

One time most peaceful and secure State, Imo, has turned into a war zone. It has lost its glamour, colour and hospitality to insecurity.

It's normal to search hostels in some areas but carting away students at night in the name of interrogation is a Human Rights Violation.

NigerianArmy is trying very hard to provoke a civil war in south eastern Nigeria. How can they militarize SE, going hostel to hostel to abduct students currently writing their exams. This is absolute cowardice as they ignore Boko haram & bandits currently killing people in NE.

The Nigeria security apparatus cannot continue to harras and killing innocent students and the youths in East and elsewhere while the elders keep mute.

When are Nigeria women going to go out and protest against the killing of their children?
