Opinion: The Students Who Were Shot During Protest In Jos Were Only Exercising Their Rights

The incident which took place in Jos saw students being shot at after they came out in their numbers to protest.

The students simply decried the fact that some of them had stayed for many years, longer than they should have, due to postponement of exams and suspension of academic activities.

With such, these students only out of anger and frustration came out to ensure that their pleas and wishes to complete their academic activities are heard, in order for them to return to their respective homes amidst the current happenings in the state.

But, in doing such, they were shot. Though, it seems uncertain who could be responsible for such an act, and as such, the condemnable deed shouldn't be condoned, as this group of students were only exercising their rights as they should, due to what they had been made to pass through.

Some may choose to criticize the actions of these students after the outcome of the protest. However, this should never be the case because it is only normal for any citizen in a democratic nation to fully express and exercise their rights, and this was the exact thing which they did, though, some sustained severe injuries.

These students who were peacefully exercising their rights deserve to get justice, as investigation should be done to ensure those responsible for such are being made to face the law.
