ASUU Fumes Over UNIJOS Killings, Asks FG To Secure Students And Staff

Following the ongoing crisis in Jos, Plateau State, the Academic Staff Union of Universities has tasked the federal government to secure the school against the killing of its staff and students in UNIJOS.

In a statement released by the union on Sunday, it decried the breach of security in Jos and other parts of the state leading to the murdering of some students. The insecurity has forced the management of the University of Jos to shut the institution.

According to a statement signed by Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, the UNIJOS ASUU Chairman, the major responsibility of the government is to secure lives and properties.

He claimed that the situation in Jos is closely related to justice and beckoned the Federal Government to bring justice to all the communities affected. He urged the FG to stand up to justice or there will be violence through reprisal attacks.

He decried the insecurity around the University host community insisting that the government should provide strong security to avoid the repeat of deadly events that took place in 2018. He said insecurity led to the loss of staff and two students in 2018 and the Union raised concerns and the government assured of adequate security.
