Every institution in Nigeria has one, two or more things that made it standout from others. This particular thing makes the school unique. For example, the Obafemi Awolowo University and the prestigious University of Ibadan is know for its impeccable architectural structures. And this alone made both institutions standout from others across the country.
In this article, I will be introducing to you, the only higher institution in Nigeria, accessible by land, water and air. This institution is situated in the deep heart of Nigeria's economic hub. The institution is no other but, the prestigious University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos. The institution is popularly known as the University of first choice and the nation's pride.
The University of Lagos is unarguably one of the best higher institutions we have in the country. It was established in 1962 on the recommendation of the Eric Ashby commission, advising government on Investment in Education. The establishment of the University was a response to a pressing need of time. As was with other institutions established around this period, the University of Lagos was set up to provide the required human power for the then emerging manufacturing and rapidly industrializing Nigeria.
Several locations were proposed for the site of the first class university but, Yaba was eventually picked. This is because it was already a centre of rapidly growing population with several villages that were sparsely populated and accessible by water from other parts of Lagos.
The University of Lagos has truly served as a catalyst for the radical transformation of the locality which was earlier know for agriculture and fishing due to it nearness to the Lagos lagoon, and will continue to discharge of it's set objectives.

A recent publication of Forbes magazine ranked the school as the 3rd best university in Africa for entrepreneurship after University of Cape Town and Makariere University, tagging University of Lagos the “startup powerhouse” college for Nigerian students.
Currently, the University has three campuses: Akoka, Yaba (Radiography campus), and College of Medicine in Idi Araba.

As it stands, the University of Lagos is the only institution in Nigeria accessible by Land, Water and Air. Often times, dignitaries touch down at the sport centre to attend important events on campus, while by water, it can be accessible via the Lagos lagoon which surrounds the institution.
