When I was little, I admired how brilliantly the Headmaster of my Community Village Schools spoke the English language and how neatly dressed he always appeared, thus, I made up my mind to be educated and someday be a graduate so I could speak and dress like him. Time flew quickly, I grew up very fast, rounded my primary and secondary education and it was time to face the dreaded jamb. Surprisingly, I beat it at just a sitting.
In January, 2020, I was given admission to study Computer Science in the prestigious University of Uyo, but there was a problem - my parents couldn't afford my school fees after paying my acceptance fees. I had to go to school and hoped they raised the money before the schools portal closed.
During my second month in the University, a friend of mine introduced me to Opera News, claiming they pay people who could write articles for them. I thought it was another time wasting platform, so I just collected the application and promised to check it out later on.
Luckily for me, registration halted and the school went on strike due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in Nigeria. I went back home to help my family in the not-too-lucrative oil business we run in the village, so as to help in raising money for my school fees.
After the day's work, I always check up news about the pandemic and when schools will resume. But surprisingly, the Opera News app brings up notification about all these information, and I became a regular visitor to the platform, reading stories and information you'll never randomly find on the internet. Then one day I decided to do a research about the platform after I stumbled on a 'become a creator' button.
After reading up testimonies online, I decided to give it a try and so I registered. In my first month, I didn't give it much attention because I was still having some doubt in my mind. On the 15th of May, 2020, I got information that the hub has finally paid. I rushed down to my opay wallet and found out I have been credited N5,231. I jumped for joy.
From then on, my seriousness and love for writing skyrocketed. I learnt and read from good writers like Richiehenshaw, Gistnews01, SportInYoruba, etc. It has been almost a year I started writing and I can attest that it has been one of the best thing that has happened to me.
During the pandemic, I saved a lot - courtesy of Opera News, and when schools reopened, I paid my school fees for the whole session and a portion is still left, which I intend using in paying for my second year school fees
BALANCE LEFT AFTER PAYING MY SCHOOL FEES
I just want to say a big thank you to the hub, a big thank you to Tunde and Showmimo, who have made me a better writer by correcting me when I send mails demanding why my article was rejected.
It's an honor becoming part of the Opera News family. Gracias
