Current news reports has it that, An Igbo man has been appointed Vice Chancellor of Famous University named 'Leeds University'. As is it now, there is records of massive celebration and congratulatory messages flowing in to the academically sound son of the soil from the eastern part of Nigeria. There's jubilation every where, especially in his hometown.
Professor Charles Egbu on south bank, will return to Leeds university as the new vice chancellor, a city where he studied and taught, to begin his new role on 1st of November, 2020. He will take over from professor Margret House, the former vice chancellor, who will step down for new new vice chancellor, professor Charles egbu to resume duties. Professor Margret house has already served the Leeds university as vice chancellor for seven years.
In his words, professor Charles egbu says, 'am honoured to be joining the Leeds Trinity; a university who's values and ethos around widening participation, offering a personalize approach and encouraging all students to achieve their best, align with my own. The university has an impressive track record in learning, teaching and employability, and I am looking forward to building on a strong foundations established under the leadership of professor house.'
'I have already been impressed by the sense of community at Leeds Trinity and I am looking forward to engaging with students, colleagues and alumni as we shape the future strategy of the institution. Am also looking forward to returning to Leeds; the city in which I spent most of my academic life.'
With more than 25 years of experience in higher education, professor Charles egbu was previously the Pro chancellor for education and experience at the east London, where he was responsible for students experience, students retention, quality assurance and enhancement, the center for excellence in learning and teaching, and students Union. He's also a member of various external bodies, including advance HE Pro vice chancellor network and QAA Chanel of experts.
Prior to this, Professor Charles egbu was the dean of the school of Built Environment and Architecture at London south bank University. And head of school of Built Environment at the university of Salford, and held academic posts at the university college of London. Glasgow Caledonian university and Leeds Beckett University which was formally known as 'Leeds Metropolitan'.
Professor Charles egbu research interest focuses on project management, construction management and sustainable development; subject which is he has written 12 books on and contributed to over 350 publications in various international journals and conferences. He possesses a strong link to professional bodies, policy makers, industries and has managed several large multi disciplinary projects.
Jamie Henry, chair designate of the board of governors at Leeds Trinity University, said: 'professor Charles egbu brings with him a wealth of experience and extensive knowledge of higher education sector. His energy and vision stood out throughout a competitive recruitment process, and it's clear that he recognises Leeds Trinity strength and values, as well as bring with help a detailed understanding of opportunities and challenges faced across higher education sector. I very much look forward welcoming him to Leeds university.
Right Reverend Marcus Stock, Bishop of Leeds, an Ex-Officio chair of the Governors, added, ' since gaining University status 2013, Leeds university has gone from strength to strength as one of the three higher Catholic education institution in the UK. I have no doubt that, under professor Charles egbu's vision and leadership. The Catholic foundations and identity of the university will continue to provide inspiration for its future development and success.'
Professor House will continue with her roles as vice chancellor until the end of October, when professor Charles egbu will join the university and take over from her.
