Tips or Area of Concentration to pass English Language in WAEC 2020

Take note of this, English Language is a General paper for WAEC candidates. It is a must for WAEC candidates to pass English Language before they can further their education in Higher Institutions. The minimum passing grade for the subject is Credit (C6). 

To pass this subject you need to know the following tips.

English Language has three parts:

Part One (1 ) 40 marks

Which consists of 80 questions. This part has five Sections. Students will be given one hour to answer this. See the type of questions Waec normally ask in part one below.

Section 1

In each of the following sentence, there is one underlined word and one gap. From the list of words lettered A to D, choose the one that is the most nearly opposite in meaning to the underlined word and that will, at the same time, correctly fill the gap in the sentence.

1. Last year our farmers cultivated more crops than they ..........

A. destroyed

B. uprooted

C. harvested

D. yielded 

Section 2

From the words lettered A to D, choose the word that best completes each of the following sentences.

1. The armed rubbers ....... every room in the bank to look for money.

A. explored

B. ransacked

C. raked

D. swept

Section 3

After each of the following sentences, a list of possible interpretations is given. Choose the interpretation that you consider most appropriate for each sentence.

1. Ade is too clever by half. This means that Ade is 

A. far cleverer than others.

B. actually very stupid in his behaviour.

C. annoyingly clever

D. behaving to be clever but it is not.

Section 4

From the words lettered A to D below each of the following sentences, choose the word or group of words that is nearest in meaning to the underlined word as it is used in the sentence.

1. By failing to attend the interview, Idoko has lost a golden opportunity. 

A. bright

B. good

C. delightful

D. blessed

Section 5

From the words or group of words lettered A to D choose the word or group of words that best completes each of the following sentences.

1. A good citizen abides ....... the rules of land. 

A. with

B. in

C. at

D. by

Paper two (2) 

Paper 2 has three sections.

Section (A) 50 marks.

Students are to answer one question from this section. Your answer should not be less than 450 words.

See what you will be asked to do under Section A, go for your choice. This section normally contain 5 questions.

1. Letter writing

2. Article written

3. Essay writing

4. Write a story that end with so so words. 

Section (B) 20 marks.

This section is all about COMPREHENSION. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions under it. 

Section (C) 30 marks.

This section is all about SUMMARY. read the passage carefully and summarize it in five or six sentences.

Paper three (3)

This paper is usually for the candidates in Nigeria and Liberia only. It contains 7 sections and it is all about Oral test.

Vowel sounds

Section 2.

Consonant sounds

Section 3.

Words that rhyme

Section 4.

Stress ( main or primary)

Section 5.

Stress pattern

Section 6.

Emphatic stress

Section 7.
