The Nigerian on Wednesday the 15th day of July 2020, passed the bill which was requesting the approval of the Senate to confirm a foremost Polytechnic in Nigeria, Auchi Polytechnic Auchi into a full-blown status of a Federal University.
Auchi Polytechnic is situated in Edo state (the heartbeat of the nation) and it will be recalled that there has been a growing concern and clamour for the Poly to be upgraded in earlier times.
The bill for the upgrade of Auchi Polytechnic to a university status was sponsored by Sen.Francis Alimikhena while the one seeking an upgrade on the Nigerian Maritime School was sponsored by Senator James Manager.
After a meticulous clause by clause look into the bills, the lawmakers subsequently passed the bill. Auchi Polytechnic is known to be operating affiliated degree programs in collaboration with Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Akwa.
