The Ebonyi State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi; FNSE, FNATE, in order to cub the creepily effects of social vises in the state, and to exculpate the saying that "all work without play, makes a boy dull", has organized and kicked off School Sports competition in all the 13 local government areas of the state.
In a joint media briefing between Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth and Sports Development on the ongoing Sports competition, held in the Ministry of Education Abakakiki, Dr Onyebuchi Chima, the Commissioner for Education, assured Ebonyi State government readiness to protect the governor's Schools Sports competition contingents from thirteen Local government Area of the State.
Dr Onyebuchi Chima who precided on the press briefing along with his counterpart in the Ministry of Youth and Sports development, Hon. Charles Akpuenika, stated that sports is a panacea to disharmony among youths and insecurity in the Society.
Dr Chima said School Sports competition have been completed in the thirteen Local government Areas in the State ready for Zonal competition level and emphasised that the completed sports competition was hitch free.
He declared that security of the School Sports competition contingents is assured, as State government has mobilised relevant agencies to serve for the safety and comfort of the Sports contingents in their designated camp.
He further announced that the Sports competition and academic class work would run simultaneously, as Schools would resume on Monday, emphasizing that Sports and Studies in Schools enhance brilliant academic performance of School Child.
The Commissioner for Youths and Sports development Hon Charles Akpuenika said while Local level of the competition has ended, the Zonal Sports competition for elimination process would commence on Monday 24th and end on Wednesday 26th May, 2021.
Hon Akpuenika said the State will host one thousand six hundred and seventy one contingents from the three Senatorial Zones of the State to compete for the finals in the State level, maintaining that governor David Nweze Umahi has empowered youths of Ebonyi State with various empowerment programmes including provision of Sienna Cars, Tricycles, and Sponsorship of Sports competition which is a major empowerment programme for youths among others.
The Senior Special Assistant to governor on Medical, Dr Richard Nnabu said although Covid-19 Pandemic have reduced in Ebonyj State, arrangement have been made for the provision of Sanitizers, face mask, Ambulance and Medical personals for the protection of the Sports contingents from three Zones of the State.
The David Nweze Umahi School Sports Competition would camp at Holy Ghost School Abakakiki, while two permanent Secretaries from Ministry of Education Mr Elijah Ituma and his counterpart in the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Mr Ben Okike witnessed the Press briefing.
Indeed, Governor Umahi is a doing everything within his power to engage the youths in a mind-driven activities, to ensure peaceful coexistence in the state between the youths and government of the state.
