Two Academic Practices Of OAU Best Graduating Medical Students Which Other Students Can Emulate

You probably must have heard about Joy Adesina, the best graduating medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University. Joy's story trended some time ago after she got rewarded by the Ogun state government for her brilliant performance in school.

According to the story, Joy graduated with 9 awards and 10 distinctions. In appreciation for her brilliance, the Ogun state governor gave her a house, 5 million naira and a scholarship to further her education.

During Joy's recent interview with the Punch News, she narrated her struggles in school. One notable thing about Joy's story was that she never gave up during her struggling times in her academics. She always motivated herself to do better. However, Joy mentioned two of her practices in school that contributed to her success.

These two academic practices are what students can emulate if they want to achieve success in their academics too.

1. Reading time.

Joy read in two sessions when she was in school. According to her, her lectures usually spanned from morning until evening. So, she usually got home around 5pm or 6pm. She starts her first session from 7pm to 9pm, then she sleeps from 9pm to 2am. The second session starts from 2am to 6am.

This means that Joy had time to rest and relax her brain. As we could see above, Joy never read more than 3 hours in each session. This did not let her get tired easily while reading.

2. Her choice of friends.

Joy kept a small circle of friends. People who shared the same objectives and goals like herself. Joy stated this in her interview with the Punch News. The truth is that the fewer friends you keep, the less problem you give yourself. It is extremely difficult to find people who share the same thirst for success like you. If you finally find them, they are always few. This is why Joy's circle of friends was very small.

The same way, students can learn to keep fewer friends because not all friends will contribute positively to one's academic performance in school. There are some friends who will distract you with their problems, unseriousness and other unnecessary factors. Keep friends you know share the same objective as you.
