Candidates had low scores in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Institutions Matriculation Examination (UTME) should not give up just yet. There are still opportunities for higher institution admission without JAMB/UTME.
For the science students that love the medical discipline, admissions are open into schools of health and schools of nursing. Candidates that are interested in the nursing profession should simply apply to any of the schools of nursing with open applications. Applications are still opened to the following schools of nursing: UBTH School of Nursing, OAUTH School of Nursing, Kwara State College of Nursing, Oyo State School of Nursing, FCT School of Nursing and UITH School of Nursing. The program runs for three years.
Candidates that do not mind the allied medical sciences should can opt for the schools of health. One of the most popular courses in the schools of health is CHEW (Community Health Extension Worker). This is an interesting course because graduates of the course can cover for nurses in primary health care facilities. Apart from CHEW, another course that can be studied in a college of health is Medical Laboratory Technology. Other courses are Health Information Management, Environmental Health Technology, Dental Therapy and Radiography. Most schools of health are currently selling admission forms. x,xThe courses in the schools if health run for two to five years.
For the non science students, daily part time (DPT) programs of public polytechnics can be explored. DPT programs run for two years. Graduates of the program simply need to contact the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for regularization after the graduation.
Students can also pursue courses in other West African Countries. Universities in Republic of Benin, Togo and Ivory Coast have ready admissions for Nigerian students. There are thousands of Nigeria students running courses in francophone countries.
