We are not Clamoring for Reopening of Schools, we only want SS3 pupils to Write WAEC Exam- Lawmakers

The Chairman House committee on basic education Hon Julius ihonvbere, while speaking this morning on a popular program “Sunrise daily”on Channels tv reacted to the federal government decision,to rescind the reopening of the schools for students writing WAEC examination.

He said we are not clamoring for full reopening of schools, what we are saying is that our children needs to write their exiting examination which is WAEC. If you open the schools for only SS3 students, then we can easily contain the spread of the disease.

There are safety guidelines already by the World Health Organization to contain the spread of COVID-19, the next thing is for the government to do, is to ensure they provide all the safety equipments to all school children and teachers. The feedback we are getting from our various constituencies, shows that the parents are not happy with the decision of the Federal government not to reopen schools for WAEC examination.

Ghana recorded more cases among school children, because they resumed too early and not only to SS3 students. We are only clamoring for our students to write WAEC and not full reopening of schools.

Hon Julius ihonvbere said we need to write WAEC, so our students won’t be deprived of admission these year. We have invited the Minister of Education and all other education stakeholders for a meeting on Thursday July 16th 2020, so we can resolve the issues.
