Whenever education is the subject of discussion, and when you talk of the most educated group in Nigeria, the first thing that comes to mind is 'the yorubas' and yes the Yorubas are at the forefront in respect to this and they have many reasons to confirm that.
Recently, the southwestern part of Nigeria with it's six Governors agreed to participate in the forthcoming West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) despite the federal ministry of education preventing it. Recall that the minister of education Adamu Adamu said Nigeria will not participate in the forthcoming examination but also made it clear that the federal government cannot decide for the states. In light of this, the six states of the southwestern part of Nigeria namely; Lagos,Ogun,Oyo,Ondo,Osun and Ekiti while the northern governors indifferent to the cause on the grounds that it is not safe for schools to reopen.
That makes me ask why they (northern) governors refuse to join the southwestern governors in reopening schools but decided to stick with the federal government.
If Lagos and Oyo states who are worst hit by this pandemic are willing to reopen schools for final year students then I think other states must follow suit.
Have they (yorubas) not confirmed to the world that 'education' is really their bedrock and something they can never do without?
