Babajide while speaking on the Mid week edition of Journalist Hangout on TVC news, reacted to the public outcry about reopening of schools.
The veteran journalists said the it is so pathetic to see private schools crying fo help, because of the nature of work they do. These teachers salaries have been stopped ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. I feel sad for them because, it is from the service they render that they can be paid from.
School fees paid by the pupils is the actual source of income for them, the owners of the school can’t pay them without the school fees. Imagine for four months not receiving any salaries, and they must feed their children.
According to what we heard, that the Federal government is planning to try and pay them at least for a few months, but these is an information we can’t confirm, but the federal government should try and see to the plight of these private schools teachers and owners.
Parents on the other hand will even spend more on feeding for their children while idly doing nothing at home, they want to buy different things especially for the young kids, and even subscription data for the older ones. We urge the Federal government to find a way out to stop these public outcry before it degenerates further.
