All BUK And Other University Students Should Take Note Of This Latest Development

We are all aware that all Federal Universities have been closed due to Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU strike. The strike which caused all universities in Nigeria to close down since 9th of March, 2020 was called off few weeks back. The strike was called off in December and university students were so happy as they started preparing to go back to school to continue their academic activities.

However, the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic took off again and everyone was scared of it, especially the students who have spent almost a year at home without school. They were scared because it may lead to another lockdown and they have to continue staying at home.

Meanwhile, there is a new development in the activity calendar of some Universities in Nigeria. This article will be sharing with us the latest development in the way some universities have planned to go about the Academic activities as Covid-19 pandemic had already caused a lot of disruption to the Academic calendar previously planned by the universities.

Bayero University, Kano, popularly known as BUK, has come up with a new calendar for the competition of the 2019/2020 academic calendar.

However, the Senate of Bayero University, at a special meeting held on Monday 4th January, 2021 approved the completion of the 2019/2020 academic session truncated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This follows a major adjustment made to the 2019/2020 calendar of academic activities.

Under the adjusted calendar, undergraduates academic activities will commence from Monday 18th January, 2021 and end on Monday 26th April. 2021. While, academic activities for the second semester are scheduled to start on Monday 3rd May, 2021 and end on Thursday 16th September, 2021.

For Postgraduates, Senate approved that academic activities for the first semester will start from Monday 18th January, 2021 and end on Saturday, 5th June, 2021. And second semester will begin on Sunday 7th June, 2021and end on Monday 11th September, 2021.

The University Management is working in earnest to make sure that it abides by the COVID-19 protocols.

Although, we've not heard from the other Federal Universities whether they are going to do same. It's believed that all Federal Universities operate almost in the same way, it is therefore believed that all the other universities will design their own calendar the same way Bayero University has done.

According to the meeting held by the senate, Bayero University chapter, on the 4th January, 2021, the Academic activities will commence on the 18th January and the 2021 session will end on the 16th September, 2021.

However, it's not yet clear whether the federal government will declare another lockdown before the 18th January resumption even though there was a report that the government has no plan for another lock down. But if the pandemic continues to increase, the government may decide to declare another lockdown which no one is praying for that.

If there's no lockdown again and all necessary measures have been put in place, then University Students will be going back to school on the 18th of January, 2021.
