The reopening of schools for participation in the West African School Leaving examination WAEC in the south west geopolitical region of the country is in its final stages. The states with plans to reopen schools are Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo state.
This comes as an opposition to the federal governments declaration of suspending school resumption which was backed by 19 states in the north. An agreement was however reached by SUBEB chairmen, special advisers on education and Development Agenda for all Western Nigeria (DAWN) commission for the re-opening of schools for the ss3 students to write their examination, at a virtual meeting.
According to the statement released by DAWN, once COVID-19 preventive measures are put in place all southwest secondary schools will reopen to ss3 students to write their exams.
The appointment of class wardens and incident managers must be appointed by all schools on resumption.and the issuance of a safety compliant certificate will be issued to each school is the south west states before re-opening
The south western states will however approach the federal government to move forward the initial exam date from the 4th of August to the 24th of August 2020. They also called on WAEC to embrace computer based tests in the future.
