It is not a new thing that schools have been on lockdown for some months now since March this year to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
The Covid-19 pandemic made many countries in the world including Nigeria to close down schools this year inorder to control the spread of the virus as it is deadly and highly contagious.
Now that it seems the pandemic is not leaving anytime soon, I urge the Federal Government to reopen schools latest 3 August, 2020, so that students will not be too adversely affected by the lockdown.
If the following measures are going to be in place, then it's safe for Federal Government to reopen schools especially universities and secondary schools since the students in this category are no longer kids.
Below are the measures;
1. Face Mask And Hand Gloves Should Be Made Compulsory.
In my view, since it's important to reopen schools latest 3 August, 2020, face mask and hand gloves should be made available and compulsory for all teachers and students. This is to reduce the spread of the virus in schools.
2. Hand Sanitizers Should Be Made Compulsory.
Alongside face mask and hand gloves, hand sanitizers should also be made compulsory for those who for one reason or another are not putting on hand gloves. This is to destroy any virus that may be on their hands.
3. Campuses Should Be Fumigated.
Fumigating machines should be made available before August 3, and all school compounds and campuses should be effectively fumigated. This will make the environment free of possible Covid-19 viruses before reopening.
4. Social Distancing Should Be Enforced.
Also, to help reduce the spread of the virus, all students and staffs should obey the social distancing rule at all cost. Social gatherings including sports should be banned in schools until Covid-19 is completely defeated.
However, if the above four protocols are not to be in place, I advise the government of this country not to make any mistake of reopening schools.
Hence, in my view, schools should resume on August 3, 2020, if the above guidelines are to be in place.
