JAMB gives two important rules to institutions for UTME 2020 admission processes

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all institutions to start admission processes for first and second choice candidates.

The order was disclosed by the JAMB's spokesperson, Dr. Benjamin while presenting 2020 admission guidelines to journalist on Sunday.

The board however warned institutions on two important issues related to processing of admission:

1. No institution must charge beyond #2000 for any or whatever forms of screening they intend to conduct.

2. No school must sell forms for admission to any academic programme as all applications and admissions into all programmes must be done by JAMB in line with the laws on higher education admissions in the country.

JAMB stated that the 2020 admission process be commenced on the 21st of August 2020. The processes to start with both first and second choice candidates as indicated by candidates in choice of institutions while filling application forms.

While warning institutions to abide by the 2020 admission guidelines, JAMB threatened that violators would face sanctions, saying decisions were taken in consultation with relevant stakeholders to prevent admission duplication and extortion of students and their parents.

The board also called on operators of CBT centres to follow social distancing protocols and sanitation guidelines in whatever activities they are assigned to carried out.

JAMB also reiterated that all admissions would be ratified through Centralized Admissions Processes System (CAPS). Any admission outside CAPS is not recognized.

JAMB is the board in charge of all admissions into higher institutions in Nigeria.

Established in 1978 to centralize admissions into all schools in order to stop admission duplication common during that time.

And since, the board had been conducting admission examinations into those schools.

JAMB however faced issue of lack of integrity in the conduct of its ecams, whereby cheats had their ways leaving credible candidates perplexed.

This development made institutions and relevant stakeholders called for scrapping of the board. Some universities, especially the University of Lagos that pioneered post-UTME, devised means to correct abnormalities of JAMB in forms of extra screening of candidates before admitting them.

But with introduction of ICT innovations, the board had addressed some of salient issues its critics were holding against it.

And with outstanding performance in the conduct of 2020 UTME, JAMB had finally reclaimed its lost glories and silenced its critics.

Thanks for your time.
