The Education Community Development Service group (CDS), Of the National Youth Service Corps in Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun state have Organised the year 2021 Spelling Bee competition for Students of Public Secondary Schools in the Local Government .The competition was held at Lisabi Grammar School, idi-Aba, Abeokuta on Thursday 24th June , 2021
According to the organizers of the competition , the aim of the competition is to develop the spelling skills of the students as it has been observed that the effects of Covid-19 lockdown has imparted negatively on the academic development of the students.
Ten selected Schools from Abeokuta South local government participated in the spelling competition which was divided into three rounds.
The Spelling Bee Competition which was highly contested among the participating schools , had five out of the ten schools eliminated in the first round of the competition while the remaining five Schools went into the second round which had only one person eliminated while the other four schools advanced to the final stage.
At the end of the competition , contestant no 50 representing Abeokuta Grammar School idi-Aba Abeokuta, came a distant third, contestant no 90 representing St John's Anglican High School Kuto came second while contestant no 40 representing Reverend Kuti Memorial Grammar School Emerged as the winner of this year's Spelling Bee Competition. Prizes were later presented to the winners as well as Certificate of participation to all the participating Schools.
In his closing remarks the President of the CDS group , Corps Member Hamzat encouraged all the participants not to relent in their individual efforts as there is always another time for those who were unable to be among the first three winners to Perform better.
The President also appreciated the representatives of Ogun State Ministry of Education , representatives of Abeokuta Zonal Education Office and the Local Government Inspector Officer for Abeokuta South local government as well as Teachers and the participating Students in this year's Spelling Bee Competition.
