Kwara Approves Use of Hijab In Public Schools

The Kwara State government led by Mr. AbdulRahman AbdulRazak has ratified the use of hijab in all public schools in the state. The government also directed the 10 schools shut in the state due to hijab controversy to reopen on Monday, March 1, 2021. 

The Secretary to Kwara State Government, Mamma Jubril confirmed this a statement he released and signed on behalf of Kwara state government on Thursday evening in Ilorin.

It would be recalled that the Kwara State Government had on Friday, February 19, 2021 shut the following schools; C &S College, ST. Anthony, St. James Secondary School, St. Williams Secondary School, DSt. Barnabas Secondary School, ECWA School, CAC Secondary School, Bishop Smith Secondary School, St. John School and Surulere Baptist Secondary School to avert unrest that result may be orchestrated due to hijab controversy. 

Both the Muslim and Christian leaders attended the meeting called by Kwara State government in order to resolve the crisis amicably so that students can return to school. 

After careful consideration of education law of the state and existing court judgment, the government acknowledged and approved the right of Muslim school girl to wear hijab.
