Opinion: WAEC Exams Should Be Postponed to Next Year

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams scheduled to Hold on the 4th of August need to be postponed to next year.

These examination will create an avenue for large gatherings in many centers therefore exposing these students to more danger of community transmission.

Protocols are been announced but these protocols are not properly implemented in most schools within the country. Many schools are still reluctant in providing some basic facilities to enable compliance of the protocols.

Some measures outlined are yet to be implemented but schools are been allowed to reopen. These resumption can result to a wide spread of community transmission of these virus.

The daily update on these virus are making more Nigerian confused as some state disagree with Nigeria Center For Disease Control on their daily virus update. Creating more complications across the states.

More cases are been announced daily these alone should be considered before these exams starts commencement.

School proprietors both public and private schools need to seat up and put more efforts to compliment the measures of the Federal government as the West African Examination Council exams commence.

Before these commencement of exam more facilities needed to be provided at various points in the school premises to encourage the candidates comply with these measures.

Proper Fumigation exercise should be done before these candidates resume these examination. These exercises seems difficult for most public schools who are not even able to provide learning facilities.

Teachers should also be provided with safety kits and materials because they are even more exposed to the virus. Considering the financial state of most schools these materials can not be provided.

A total of 1.6 million candidates registered for the West African Examination Council examinations and proper planning need to done, to avoid regretting these decisions.

Meanwhile the federal government has not approved any time table for the Examination because these decisions need to properly taken.

Federal government and the minister of state of education need to form a committee that will checkmate the daily activities of these schools as well as the level of compliance to safety measures.

The Federal Government is not sure about these resumption, so these resumption should be shifted to next year.

All these cannot be achieved within these short period of time and as such these exams should be postponed till next year to enable the schools get their selves prepared for examination.
