FG declares October 1 public holiday

The Nigerian government has declared October 1st as a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, announced this even as he congratulated Nigerians on the 61st independence.

Aregbesola in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore assured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to tackle and eradicate all forms of challenges and all diverse problems.

Mass transfer hits Ogun teachers

Teachers employed under the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) have been transferred en masse across the state.

The commission’s chairman Olalekan Ifede justified the exercise, saying “it is meant to improve educational standards in the state.’’

Mr Ifede stated this at a meeting with education stakeholders in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

He said the measure would enhance even distribution of teachers across public schools in the state and help the under-staffed schools.

Fumio Kishida to become Japan’s new prime minister

The former Japanese foreign minister, Fumio Kishida, is to become the country’s new prime minister.

He won Wednesday’s leadership election for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

He is expected to succeed Yoshihide Suga as Japan’s premier on Monday, based on the LDP majority in the lower house of parliament.

The 64-year-old beat Taro Kono, the minister for the Coronavirus vaccination campaign, for the top party job in a run-off vote.

Anambra Guber: Police to deploy 6 helicopters, say nobody has right to declare sit-at-home

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has declared its readiness for the November 6 Governorship election in Anambra state, dismissing fears of a possible declaration of a sit-at-home by separatists.

It announced its plan to deploy six helicopters in the state to provide aerial patrol, surveillance and support for ground forces during the polls.

Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Baba Alkali disclosed this Wednesday in Abuja at a one-day forum on Inclusive Elections in Anambra state organised by the Press Corps of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
