Niger state closes all Public secondary schools.

Due to the wave of insecurity and the impact on school in Niger state. The Niger ministry of education has directed the closure of all public secondary schools in the state for two weeks. This will take effect on Friday 12th 2021 till March 26th 2021.

According to Hajiya Hannatu Salihu, the commissioner of education, the closure was to give relevant security agencies the time and opportunity to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment of all public secondary schools.

An emergency consultative meeting was held with leadership of the Association of proprietors of private school (NAPPS) Association of model Islamic schools (AMIS) Executive chairman, Niger state Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), head of Education agencies, Director of the ministry and other stakeholders of the sector and decision of the closure was made in the meeting.

Salihu stressed that after the comprehensive risk assessment exercise must have been made, then an all inclusive mechanism and strategies that will restore and guarantee sustainable security and safety of students as well as schools infrastructure, education manager and teachers.
