Minister of education inaugurates committee on implementation of special salaries for teachers.

For long now, it has been an undisputed fact that members of the teaching profession were being highly underpaid. This has adversely affected the nature and quality of education in the country as the teachers in various basic and secondary schools lacked the needed motivation and dedication to fully carry out their duties.

During his speech at the 2020 World Teachers Day, President Muhammadu Buhari approved a special salary scale for teachers in basic and secondary school that until now hasn't been implemented.

That is set to change, however, as the Minister of Education of the federation, Adamu Adamu, on Thursday inaugurated the national implementation committee on the revitalization and repositioning of the teaching profession towards looking at the newly approved special teachers’ salary.

The committee, which includes the Executive Secretaries of the National Universities Commission and National Commission for Colleges of Education as well as the chairman of the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission and other representatives of the Minister of Justice, Federal Civil Service Commission, State Governments and Registrar, Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria, is an emergency response to the constantly depreciating state of education in the country.
