According to reports made today, the Federal Government after various meetings held with national stakeholders over the safe reopening of schools, has announced that all schools in the country are approved to resume and commence academic activities.
Adamu Adamu, the Minister for Education made this known today during a press briefing he held earlier in Abuja, directing all schools to reopen, while ordering Unity Schools to resume their academic activities on the 12th of October and imploring the state and private owned schools to devise modalities for their respective states, however, in spite of this Federal order, some students will still be unable to resume back to their various schools.
Reason for this being that, these category of students that will not be able to resume yet are those belonging to the Federal jurisdiction and management, because the Federal authority is yet to resolve the issue being dragged with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The union has decided to continue clamouring for payment of the 'seven month salaries', change in the government's payment structure for the academic staffs and the immediate implementation of a University Transparency and Accountability Solutions (UTAS) among other demands.
Though schools owned by Federal Government might be approved to resume and can open their gates to students like all other category of schools, they will however be unable to commence academic activities as this will require the Academic Staffs to commence work and suspend the nationwide Strike currently ongoing.
But as the union has strongly reacted against FG's directive on school resumption for Federal Institutions, it is a sorry case for the students, because they will be greatly affected if the strike is further prolonged and the commencement of academic activities continues to be delayed.
