This is the second and with a theme; Four Decades of Community Based Medical Education and Research in North-Eastern Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects by Professor Babatunji Abayomi Omotara from the Department of Community Medicine.
The event which was held at the El-kanemi Hall of the University of Maiduguri saw in attendance of academic giants and other guests within and outside the medical line.
The Valedictorian, Professor Omotara, who has served the University and the northeast for decades, also launched a book titled "The Odyssey of My Life". The VC unveiled the book and also emphasized on the contributions and impact of the Valedictorian over four decades in Community Health, his tremendous exploits in academia and his show of greater courage to organise a lecture where everyone enormous can be disseminated before bowing out of the scene.
Professor Shugaba wished the Valedictorian well in his future ventures, as the university will always welcome him to offer his own quota for its progress. He also added that the commitment of the University Management is to support learning, research and community service at all times.
Those who were taught by Prof. Omotara could testify how vast he is in many areas, as he always applies other fields to community medicine.
Isah Enero Jatto, a fifth-year medical student who gave audience, said he would greatly miss the Professor. He could vividly remember how he taught them community medicine over two years ago. He used physics knowledge to explain a course in community medicine. This is someone who did physics over 50 years ago. The university of Maiduguri will miss this great icon who has retired but is not tired. All the best, sir, he wished him.
